My clients have often described me as "approachable" and "real." The idea of authenticity is plastered all over my various social platforms and I try to embody my values in and out of the therapy room. I aim to be my real self in session: sensitive, validating, warm, and will still call you on your sh*t.
As social beings who need connection, oftentimes healing occurs within the context of relationships. I have a relational approach first and foremost. I also believe that we are all making the best choices we can based on our current circumstances. Growth and healing change our perspectives and sometimes even change our circumstances themselves. This means that growth and healing change the choices we make and the way we make them.
My commitment as a trauma counselor is to affirm your autonomy and help you find self-empowerment through you-guided collaboration. I will bear witness to the various parts of your world--and systems in the collective world--that have shaped your experience, who you are, and what you do. I approach therapy with curiosity, compassion, and a good dose of humor. I will challenge you to become more self-aware and deconstruct various parts that no longer serve you (these could be things like a system of oppression, your mom's nagging voice, or the experience of being bullied as a child) so that you can live more authentically.
I am trained in EMDR and use various techniques from other approaches including Attachment Theory, Boundary Work, Mindfulness, Family Systems, Narrative Therapy and DBT to create a plan that acknowledges your individuality and unique experiences.
Counseling is not one-size-fits-all. Therefore, I integrate various types of therapy to meet your needs and goals. As you evolve, so does your treatment. This modality is sometimes referred to Eclectic Therapy or Integrative Therapy.
I believe strongly in the science of neuroplasticity: the brain's ability to reorganize its connections and the way it functions. Relief from symptoms is awesome, but my aim is to help you rewire your brain so you can truly process and move past unhelpful patterns or impactful events.
I am LGBTQ+/queer affirming and anti-racist. I do my best to create an inclusive environment for all: body size/shape, gender, race, country of origin, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion and disability status. I make a commitment to uphold these values through continuing education and action within our therapeutic relationship.
